What a business VPN price leaves out
At ten users the published plans here work out at $4.16 to $18.00, median $8.00 per user per month.
At two users the median plan costs 1.0 times its own published per-user price. Minimum user counts and fixed charges are the reason.

What the published figure leaves out
- The minimum. Several vendors bill five users whether you have five or two.
- The fixed charge. A dedicated gateway or dedicated-IP server is a flat monthly amount on top of the per-user price.
- The monthly-billing premium, where the advertised figure is the annual rate.
- Taxes, which none of these vendors quantifies.
- The work of moving, which nobody prices: devices have to be re-enrolled and routes rebuilt.
What you can negotiate and what you cannot
Negotiable in practice: the per-user rate above about fifty users, which is where the vendors that publish nothing expect the conversation to start. Not negotiable: the minimum on a self-serve plan — it is set in the checkout, not by a salesperson.
Questions worth asking before you sign
- What is the minimum number of users billed?
- Is a dedicated gateway or dedicated IP required, and what does it cost?
- What is the per-user price on monthly rather than annual billing?
- What happens to the price if the team shrinks?
