When does an EOR need the payroll money, and what happens to a bonus approved after the cutoff?

Summary

It depends on how the provider bills. Remote invoices an estimate on the first business day of the month, usually due in 14 days, and settles the difference after payroll; Deel invoices the month's payroll on the 23rd and expects the money within five calendar days. A bonus approved after the cutoff, which is the 11th at Remote in most countries and the 20th at Deel, is paid with the following month's salary.

A commission approved on the 18th

At Remote, the 18th is past the cutoff in every country on the standard 11th or on the 16th, so the commission goes out with next month's pay. Remote says that "in most cases" it cannot process such items as off-cycle payments. At Deel, the 18th is before the cutoff on the 20th, and the commission lands in the current month. Deel reviews off-cycle requests case by case and can accept or reject them.

Remote: estimate first, settle later

Remote's first invoice of the month is a pre-funding invoice built from what is recorded in the platform on the first business day: salaries and statutory contributions, approved incentives and expenses, and benefits, with a CSV breakdown per team member. From June 1, 2026, the estimate may also include statutory or contractual 13th and 14th salaries and holiday bonuses, so pre-funding runs higher in the months those payments are due. Payment terms are "usually 14 days, unless otherwise specified in your contract." A large one-time incentive added between the 1st and the cutoff can trigger an additional pre-funding invoice.

Around the third business day of the next month, a reconciliation invoice carries Remote's management fee and the previous month's actual costs. Higher actual costs mean a bill for the difference. Lower costs produce a credit for a future invoice, and a match produces a $0 invoice.

Deel: one bill after the cutoff

Deel runs most countries on a calendar month: cutoff on the 20th, invoices at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on the 23rd, pay on the last business day of the month. Expenses must be approved by 11:59 a.m. Pacific on the cutoff day and other adjustments by 11:59 p.m. Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Mongolia, and the Philippines are paid twice a month, with a cutoff on the 4th for the first half.

The standard due date is five calendar days after the invoice is issued. Late payment costs 0.15% of the whole invoice per day, Deel fees plus salary and employer costs, and the fee does not compound. On a $10,000 invoice that is $15 a day.

Remote's cutoff calendar

Remote's standard cutoff is the 11th at 11:59 p.m. UTC. Twenty-three countries use the 16th: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, and Vietnam. Bulgaria's cutoff is the last day of the month; employees there are paid on the 15th of the following month, and a separate reconciliation invoice for Bulgaria arrives around the 20th. The United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, Ukraine, and the Philippines have their own schedules.

Contract amendments, such as a new salary or title, must be submitted by the 5th to reach that month's payroll. A cutoff that falls on a weekend or public holiday usually moves to the previous business day. In Remote's own example, August 16, 2025 was a Saturday and August 15 a public holiday in several countries, so the cutoff moved to August 14.
