What do you actually pay for Surfshark over the first two years, and after?
Summary
On Surfshark's U.S. pricing page, the 24-month plans cost $67.23 for Starter, $75.33 for One and $121.23 for One+, each covering the first 27 months. After that, Surfshark bills once a year at its standard, non-introductory price. The renewal table on its terms page is shown in the visitor's local currency, and Surfshark says those prices may be subject to A/B testing, so there's no single U.S. renewal figure to quote here.
The first bill
Each card leads with a monthly figure ($2.49, $2.79 and $4.49) followed by "+3 EXTRA months," then the real charge in smaller type: "$67.23 for the first 27 months (VAT may apply)" for Starter, and $75.33 and $121.23 for the other two. The struck-through "old prices" of $444.15, $511.65 and $589.95 are what the "Save 85%" and "Save 79%" badges are measured from.
The page also has 12-month and one-month tabs. Only the 24-month figures were readable as text when we retrieved it, so the other terms aren't covered here.
Then what
Surfshark's pricing terms say every plan "renew[s] automatically at the full price" and that the renewal price "will be at the standard non-introductory rate." The FAQ spells out the schedule: "The 2-year plan is billed once at the beginning of your subscription and then annually after it expires." Surfshark emails a reminder 30 days before renewal, except on monthly plans.
Same VPN, more extras
Moving up a tier doesn't change the VPN. According to the renewal table's plan contents, Starter is the VPN plus Alternative ID. One adds Antivirus, Alert (breach monitoring) and Search. One+ adds identity theft coverage and Incogni, a data removal service, on top of One. The coverage is for U.S. residents outside New York State, and Incogni is limited to residents of the U.S., U.K., EU, Switzerland and Canada.
Every plan allows unlimited simultaneous connections, with two catches in the terms of service. Antivirus is capped at five devices per account, and a fair usage clause lets Surfshark limit "an immoderate number" of connected devices. Free trial users are held to three devices until the trial ends.
The 30-day guarantee has exclusions
The money-back guarantee "applies only to your initial purchase and is limited to one refund per Service," and recurring payments are non-refundable. It also doesn't cover:
- sign-ups through resellers other than Paddle, Google Play or Cleverbridge
- payment by prepaid card or gift card
- the anonymous dedicated IP option and Alternative ID purchases such as Alternative Number
- anyone who was given a free trial of 30 days or longer
