How much does Tailscale cost for a business?
Summary
Tailscale's pricing page lists Standard at $8 per user per month and Premium at $18, with Enterprise quoted by sales. The free Personal plan covers six users, but Tailscale says it's only suitable for non-commercial use, so a company should plan on paying. Standard already includes SCIM and device posture checks; Premium is for teams that want just-in-time access and network flow logs.
Why the free plan doesn't count
Personal gives you unlimited devices, up to six users and "nearly all" of Tailscale's features for $0. The catch is in the FAQ: "This is a free plan and is only suitable for non-commercial use of Tailscale." Tailscale's docs add that you can't buy extra seats on Personal. A seventh user means moving to a paid plan.
What $8 gets you, and what $18 adds
Standard removes the user cap and adds the admin tooling: provisioning users and groups through SCIM, configuring clients with MDM tools, device posture integrations with MDM, EDR and XDR products, and separate admin roles for billing, IT and auditors. It allows up to 10 ACL groups.
Premium keeps all of that and adds:
- just-in-time access to resources
- network flow logs and log streaming
- advanced Tailscale SSH
- regional routing and traffic steering
- up to 300 ACL groups and 10,000 minutes a month for ephemeral devices, up from 1,000
- priority support
If an auditor will ask who connected to which server and when, that answer lives in Premium. Destination logging on exit nodes is also limited to Premium and Enterprise.
Costs that don't scale with people
Exit nodes and similar machines count as tagged resources. Each plan includes 50 a month, and every one after that is $1 a month.
The pricing page also lists a Mullvad add-on at $5 a month for every five devices.
Those exit-related extras exist because, out of the box Tailscale connects your own devices to each other and leaves ordinary internet traffic alone. Every device has to opt in before its browsing goes out through an exit node.
