Firezone pricing: why $4.16 tops the ranking, and moving off the 6-user Starter
Short version
- Team is $4.16 per user per month billed yearly, or $5 monthly. The page puts it as "Save 17% by switching to annual".
- No minimum, no fixed charge, a 500-user cap. One person or five hundred, the per-head figure is $4.16.
- Starter is free for up to 6 users, no credit card. The seventh person moves everyone to Team: 7 x $4.16 = $29.12 a month.
- In this site's US-dollar ZTNA ranking, $4.16 is the first line at 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 users. The next line is Twingate Teams at $5.00 as read on 2026-10-02.
- Ten people for three years: $1,498. Fifty: $7,488.
- Enterprise is a quote with a 30-day trial.
Why $4.16 leads at every team size
This site's per-user figure is seats billed times the published price, plus any required fixed charge, divided by actual headcount. Firezone Team leaves two of those three inputs empty. There is no minimum, so seats billed equals people; there is no required fixed charge. What remains is $4.16 times the headcount, and dividing gives $4.16 back.
Other plans share that shape: Twingate Teams, OpenVPN CloudConnexa Essential, Tailscale Standard all have no minimum and no fixed charge. Among them Firezone's published price is the lowest, so changing the headcount changes nothing in the order. Plans with a minimum (GoodAccess, NordLayer) jump below five users, and plans with a required charge (UTunnel, NordLayer Core) weigh most on small teams. Firezone has neither lever.
| Team size | Monthly bill | Per person | Three years |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | $8.32 | $4.16 | $300 |
| 7 | $29.12 | $4.16 | $1,048 |
| 10 | $41.60 | $4.16 | $1,498 |
| 50 | $208.00 | $4.16 | $7,488 |
| 100 | $416.00 | $4.16 | $14,976 |
| 500 | $2,080.00 | $4.16 | $74,880 |

The full ranking is at ztna-cost; the ten-person cut is at 10-users. One note on the runner-up: until 2026-10-02 this site's tables computed Twingate Teams at the $4.25 read on 2026-09-07, which put it $0.09 behind Firezone. The page re-read on 2026-10-02 shows $5, and the gap is now $0.84 a person. That is written up in article-41.
What the seventh user costs
Starter is "Up to 6 users", and the count includes admins as well as end users. Up to six, the bill is $0. Adding a seventh means Team, and Team bills all seven: 7 x $4.16 = $29.12 a month on yearly billing, or 7 x $5 = $35 monthly. The six free seats do not carry over; every seat becomes a paid one.
Tailscale's Personal plan also stops at six, but Tailscale limits it to non-commercial use. Among the free tiers in this site's data, Firezone's Starter is the only one that covers six people at a company. The side-by-side is in article-45.
$4.16 against $5
Divide the printed figures and monthly billing is 20% above yearly. The page's label says "Save 17%", and 17% off $5 is $4.15. This site uses the $4.16 the page prints.
The FAQ shows how seats are prorated when you add them mid-cycle: "5 * 50 * 0.5 = $125". That makes the yearly Team seat $50 a year, and $50 / 12 is $4.1666..., which the page displays as $4.16.
What Team adds over Starter

|---|---|---|---|
| Users (admins included) | 6 | 500 | Unlimited |
| Service accounts | 10 | 100 | Unlimited |
| Sites | 10 | 100 | Unlimited |
| Admins | 1 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Connected clients | 3 per user | 5 per user | Unlimited |
| Full-tunnel routing | — | Yes | Yes |
| Conditional access policies | — | Yes | Yes |
| Directory sync (Google, Entra ID, Okta) | — | — | Yes |
| Support | Community | Priority email | Dedicated Slack |
| Uptime SLA | — | — | 99.9% |
Policies and resources are unlimited on every plan. Team is paid by credit card or ACH; annual invoicing is an Enterprise item. Seats on Team can be added or removed at any time: additions are prorated for the rest of the billing cycle, removals take effect at the end of it, and there are no refunds for removed seats.
Enterprise and the 30-day trial
The page marks Enterprise with "30-day trial", which the FAQ calls a free pilot period. Directory sync, log sinks to Splunk, Datadog, Elastic and others, access to SOC 2 and pentest reports, and the 99.9% SLA sit at this tier. No price is published. The FAQ also offers a 50% discount to nonprofits and educational institutions.
What the pricing page says about open source
Under "Is there a self-hosted plan?" the FAQ says the source code for the entire product is on GitHub and that you are free to self-host without restriction, and in the same answer that Firezone offers no documentation or support for self-hosting. The cost of that route is your own servers, which never appears in this site's tables.
Who this is not for
Teams above 500 people are outside Team and into an Enterprise quote. If directory sync is a requirement, it is not on Team either, so the price is again a quote.
