How that is worked out

users billed = max(users you have, minimum users the plan bills) user subtotal = published per-user price x users billed fixed charges = the mandatory gateway, server or base fee, where the plan requires one monthly total = user subtotal + fixed charges effective per user = monthly total / users you have uplift = effective per user / published per-user price three-year cost = monthly total x 36 + setup fee

When to stay where you are

Minimums decide small teams. UTunnel VPN (5 users), GoodAccess (5 users), NordLayer (5 users) bill a minimum, so the two-user column is the one to read if that is your size.
Switching remote-access products is not free either. Devices have to be re-enrolled and routes rebuilt, and no vendor here publishes what that takes.
If your team is about to double, rank on the fifty-user column instead — the calculator takes any number.

Who this is not for

This is a price ranking, not a shortlist of better products. We have not used any of these vendors, and nothing here speaks to how secure or how fast they are.
