What does Deel's EOR cost once you look past the $599?
Summary
Deel charges $599 per employee per month for its EOR, month to month. The fee is the easy part. The deposit starts at one to one and a half months of total charges and climbs if you remove probation, add generous leave, or lengthen notice. Ending an employment adds a 30-day review by Deel before local notice even starts, and the final invoice carries severance, unused vacation, and the last salary.
What $599 buys, in Deel's words
Deel's pricing page lists four things under the EOR fee: onboarding and local compliance, payroll processing and tax filings, benefits administration, and ongoing HR and legal support. Its FAQ goes further and says all costs, "including local compliance, payroll, and benefits administration, are included in your quoted price."
What the fee cannot include is the employment itself. Salary and the employer contributions of the hiring country are billed as their own lines every month. So is the deposit, which is where Deel's terms start to diverge from the headline.
The deposit follows the contract you write
Deel's help center sets the standard deposit at one to one and a half months of all monthly charges: salary, employer costs, fixed allowances, and management fees. Then it lists what pushes that number up:
- Removing the probation period costs a two-month deposit.
- Paid time off more than eight days above the legal minimum means two months of salary.
- Every month you add to the notice period adds a month of deposit. A three-month notice period means a three-month deposit.
- Transferring an employee in with accrued benefits costs two months.
- A raise of more than 20% increases the deposit in proportion.
- Incentive or variable pay above $100,000 is reviewed case by case, and in Israel, France, Germany, and the Netherlands the full amount has to be deposited.
Stacked changes are capped at two months, except for incentive pay, variable pay, and longer notice, which sit outside the cap. A senior hire in Germany with a three-month notice clause and a large bonus ties up several months of salary plus the full bonus before the first $599 invoice arrives.
Remote takes the opposite line on its pricing page. It says other providers charge extra deposits for above-minimum leave or dropped probation periods, and "We don't."
Ending the job takes longer than the notice period
Deel's master service agreement asks for 30 days' notice before a termination, so its legal group can review the facts. Deel, not the client, then picks the method: termination with or without cause, resignation, or a mutual agreement. The contractual or statutory notice period runs on top of those 30 days.
Put dates on it. Tell Deel on October 1 that you want to end the employment of someone with three months' notice, and the last legal day lands around the end of January. Salary and benefits run the whole way. Deel can move faster during probation, and documented gross misconduct can justify dismissal without notice. Poor performance usually cannot.
Mutual separations at Deel "will always include the payment of a severance," and the deposit comes back only after the final invoice is paid. That invoice holds the last salary, unused vacation, any severance the law requires or you choose to pay, and outstanding Deel fees. Severance is your cost, not Deel's.
A clause in the terms
Deel's glossary of contract terms describes the Work Order Form introduced with its 2024 terms and states that "the client gives exclusivity to Deel to act as an employer of record." If you plan to keep Deel in some countries and use a cheaper EOR in others, that sentence decides whether you can. The same page says late payments can carry fees tied to the US prime lending rate.
