What are you actually paying for when Atlas advertises EOR at $599 a month?

Summary

You are paying for one line of the invoice. Atlas HXM's $599 is the starting point of a per-employee platform fee, and the FAQ on the same pricing page adds three more per-employee costs: a country-specific Local Employer Services (LES) rate, foreign exchange, and premiums for additional benefits. The pricing page gives neither the LES rate nor the FX markup, so its real monthly cost for a given hire only shows up in a country quote.

Four lines, one of them priced

Atlas's FAQ answers "How does Atlas HXM's Employer of Record (EOR) pricing work?" with a list of what you pay per employee.

Monthly platform fee. "A monthly administrative fee per employee hired through our EOR platform." The card above says "Platform Pricing Starts At $599 per employee / month" and mentions volume pricing for larger, multi-country teams.

LES rate. A "blended rate" covering the mandatory costs and contributions of complying with employment law, tax, and regulation, plus "the overall costs of doing business in a chosen country." It varies by country, and the pricing page does not give the rate.

FX. Charged when the invoice currency differs from the local one. Atlas starts from the OANDA spot rate and adds a markup that varies by currency. Wire and transfer costs are folded into that charge, not billed on a separate line.

Benefits. Premiums for additional coverage: healthcare, dental, vision, mental health, travel, and 401(k) where available.

Visa sponsorship is billed on top, per visa, in the 75+ countries where Atlas offers it. Nonprofits that qualify start at $399 instead of $599. You pay only for active employees, although Atlas notes that final payroll, statutory obligations, and offboarding costs "may still apply" after someone leaves.

Where "all-inclusive" comes from

An Atlas resource article dated November 20, 2025 calls the same price "transparent, all-inclusive pricing starting at $599" and, in another place, "Flat monthly pricing: $599 per employee, per month." Read alone, that suggests $599 covers the employment cost. The pricing page's FAQ is the one that itemizes the bill, and it puts the LES rate, FX, and benefits premiums outside the $599. What "direct EOR" means in Atlas's words

Atlas defines a direct EOR as a provider that "has its own business entities established in the countries where employees are hired," so that its own people support your employees. It contrasts this with an "indirect model" built on third-party HR, tax, accounting, and legal vendors in each country. The pricing page makes the same claim in plainer terms: Atlas employs workers "through its own legal entities in supported countries instead of relying on third-party EOR partners," and it lists "Owned and operated entities in 160+ countries."
